Astral Construct is ready to blast off into the deep reaches of outer space with his new album, Traveling a Higher Consciousness, due out via Desert Records on August 25, 2023. The Third Eye has the honor and pleasure of presenting a new single from this killer album – a track called “Interstellar.”

Colorado-based Astral Construct is the fuzz-driven, psychedelic space rock solo project of Drew Patricks, who is a super cool and nice guy and an immensely talented multi-instrumentalist. His project is motivated by a fascination with creating a way for listeners like you and me to get lost and travel wherever the music and our minds take us.
“The music is intended to paint the heavy and the dark, as well as the colors that brighten the fringes of the void,” Astral Construct’s Bandcamp reads.
“Interstellar” is one of five tracks on the upcoming sophomore album – one that I reviewed recently here on The Third Eye. I will not go into great detail describing the awesomeness of “Interstellar,” as I did in my review, but let you simply listen yourself and soak it in. Like the rest of the new album, it combines the fuzz, metal edge, and space-rock atmospherics that make Drew’s project great.
“Interstellar conveys the multitude of emotions of the solitary space traveler,” Drew of Astral Construct told me via email. “The changes throughout the song show loneliness, curiosity, contemplation, uncertainty, calm, longing, and anticipation. The long ending signals the journey continues.”
Yes! The journey never ends. Whether we’re talking about life or the lifelong pursuit of making music like this, we’re all learning as we go. We’re creating art for the sake of creating art and also to share it with the world. We’re performing and watching live music to join in this stoner/psychedelic/doom community, and for many of us, it lifts our spirits and helps us through the hard times.
The solitary space traveler in “Interstellar” faces a different fate. And that’s where the imagination of Drew’s Astral Construct takes over. Like all good space rock, it draws from the well of science fiction creativity and imagines distant futures and possibilities. This creativity is what drives people like Drew, and it drives me, as well. We create these stories not just for escapism but for entertainment and searching for a deeper meaning in life.
It helps that “Interstellar” and Astral Construct’s music is so damn good. The new album, Traveling a Higher Consciousness, continues his theme of space exploration of a sense of isolation but expands on these messages. “Accessing The Mind’s Eye” is another single available now on Bandcamp. I highly recommend you head over now to listen to that, as well.
“Interstellar” is the last track on the new album – the climax of Astral Construct’s new space journey that takes us out on a psychedelic trip into new galaxies. Mark your calendars for August 25th, and get ready for this release. I believe pre-orders are ready now, so get it while it’s hot.
