The Third Eye

“The third eye (also called the mind’s eye or inner eye) is a mystical and esoteric invisible eye, usually depicted as located on the forehead, which provides perception beyond ordinary sight.”

Man, Myth, and Magic – Volume 19 by Richard Cavendish

“Having formed in late 1965 with the aim of spreading LSD consciousness, the 13th Floor Elevators commissioned business cards containing an image of the third eye and the caption “Psychedelic rock.”

1966: The Year the Decade Exploded, Jon Savage

The Third Eye is a site about psychedelic rock and its subgenres, its past, present, and future. Ever since listening to Hendrix’s Are You Experienced? as a teenager, I’ve had a deep love for music and the esoteric. This site is a continuation of my journey to discover great new psych-rock music, explore its rich social and cultural history, and draw closer to the source of all things.
