Hailing from Timisoara, Romania, instrumental rock powerhouse Methadone Skies are marking a milestone in 2024 – their fifteenth year crafting mind-bending soundscapes.
To commemorate this journey, they’re set to unleash their sixth studio album, Spectres at Dawn, a high-energy forty-minute dive into the farthest reaches of heavy psych, doom metal, and progressive rock.
Slated for an October release on their own label, Haywire Records, Spectres at Dawn amplifies the core elements of underground rock to a whole new level.
Known for their sprawling post-rock atmospheres and hypnotic stoner grooves, the band refines their formula with this release, sharpening their focus for an intense yet refined listening experience. Expect tighter, punchier tracks that strike with precision while maintaining their signature depth and intricacy.
To herald the album’s arrival, Methadone Skies have unveiled a new music video for their lead single, ‘87 via ’94—a riff-fueled track that plunges listeners into a maelstrom of sound. Directed by Flavius Retea and Alexandra Dragu (a.k.a. Eclecticat Design), the video brings an unexpected twist to the track’s infectious energy.
“This was actually the first song we wrote for the album,” shares guitarist Casian Stanciu. “We’ve been playing it live for a while now, and it never fails to get people moving. It’s fun and catchy, and always gets the audience dancing. But the video tells a different story—following a man suffocated by his corporate 9-to-5 life, eventually spiraling into a nervous breakdown. Filming it was an experience of its own!”
Over their career, Methadone Skies have shared the stage with genre heavyweights like Samsara Blues Experiment, Motorpsycho, Yawning Man, My Sleeping Karma, Stoned Jesus, and 1000MODS.
They’ve also graced the stages of festivals across Central and Eastern Europe, including Doom Over Vienna, Lake on Fire, and Thulsa Doom Fest. And with Spectres at Dawn on the horizon, they’re preparing to embark on another tour.
