New Music: Infinite Peaks by The Cosmic Dead

Glasgow-based The Cosmic Dead is an amorphous visceral blob of space rock madness powered by celestial vibrations. Its long-awaited ninth full-length album, Infinite Peaks, was released on April 12th, and it was well worth the wait.

The Scottish astral travelers have created an album with two extended space rock instrumental jams that were recorded and mixed at Glasgow’s 16 Ohm Recording Studio. The record has been released exclusively on Heavy Psych Sounds Records, so you know it’s good.

The track listings on Bandcamp and Spotify differ slightly for Infinite Peaks. On Bandcamp, we get two extended tracks, while on Spotify, the band has broken up the two long jams into smaller parts. Either way you slice and dice it, the mind-bending jams are all killer and no filler, just the same.

Infinite Peaks is a massive and ambitious instrumental space rock album with plenty of heavy psychedelia. Rock In Athens says the album will “show new generations how psych/space rock should be played.” That’s high praise, and I believe it’s well-deserved.

I hadn’t heard of The Cosmic Dead before stumbling upon this excellent album, but then again, there’s so much good music out there that it’s hard to keep track of. They are another band to add to the growing list of excellent new space rock, along with Astral Construct, Snakes Don’t Belong In Alaska, and many more.

The Cosmic Dead says their exploratory long-form compositions often reach levels of sonic destruction. They also note that legendary DJ Kozmik Ken has declared them the loudest psychedelic rock band on the planet. I imagine a scenario where the loudest psych-rock acts gather for a Battle of The Bands-type situation and play as loud as they can so we can verify these claims. In the meantime, Infinite Peaks provides good evidence of their loudness.

If you like Infinite Peaks, check out the rest of The Cosmic Dead’s work, including its 2021 split release with Italian psych-rockers Giobia called The Intergalactic Connection: Exploring The Sideral Remote Hyperspace. Enjoy!
