Rejoice! The heavy-psych masters REZN are back with a new song off their forthcoming album, Burden, due on June 14th. The new single “Chasm” shows the Chicago-based band at their very best, taking the heaviness of stoner rock and mixing it with the kaleidoscopic delights of psychedelia, prog rock, and shoegaze.

On its new album, REZN says it draws influences from the hazy psych of The Black Angels and reverb-drenched guitars of Spectral Voice and combines it with the lurching meditative vibes of the great OM. Dang! Burden promises to be an album of immense amp-worshipping weight and heady instrumentation.

Burden was recorded simultaneously with REZN’s previous record, Solace, in July 2021. Instead of releasing a double album, the band divided the material into two separate albums, each with a unique emotional timbre.

Solace was meant to create a narcotic sense of dreaminess—which it achieved, no doubt—while Burden aims to create a sense of delirium, claustrophobia, and misery. This marriage of brute force and sublime atmospheres has always been part of REZN’s formula, which may explain why they worked so well on tour with groups like Elder and Russian Circles.

REZN is one of the great underground rock bands in the business today. The group is hard to pin down because of its immensely original sound and style. Their new record is sure to be another stellar entry in their discography.
