A new psych-space-kraut band from Paris is blasting off into the underground rock scene called Empty Full Space (EFS), and they’ve released two new singles from their upcoming debut album, From the Limbo. The record will be released on March 20th via Spinda Records.
EFS comprises five French musicians who shaped their modern psychedelic space rock sound by merging krautrock influences, Hawkwind’s hypnotic patterns, and tripping guitar riffs recalling the Brian Jonestown Massacre. The band carves a heady vibe through fuzz-driven overloads, ethereal vocal effects melted into long tape echo feedbacks, and synthesizer aerial breathes.
Two new singles have dropped from their debut album thus far – the title track and “Amnesia.” “From the Limbo” creeps into your subconscious over its five-minute and twenty-eight-second runtime, with a layered sonic attack that combines space rock with a bit of a shoegaze feel. The vocals fit within the broader context of the song’s various effects, simply another dimension in a track that pushes us deeper into outer space the longer it goes.
“Amnesia” is even longer at seven minutes and nine seconds, providing foreboding sound effects suitable for a cosmic horror flick. I love the guitar riff in this song, a track that rocks harder than “From the Limbo.” The synth effects also add a nice touch, reminiscent of EFS’s major influence, Hawkwind.
If you like Hawkwind and other space rock groups, check out Empty Full Space’s two new singles and consider pre-ordering their debut album, which will be available digitally, on vinyl, and compact discs. This record should be an excellent addition to a psych-rock vinyl collection. Enjoy!
