Trigona returns with Radiant Point, a six-track full-length that further refines Rob Shiels’ singular approach to modern space rock, balancing propulsion, texture, and melody with a clear sense of forward motion.

We have covered Rob’s Trigona project on The Third Eye many times over the years, and he always delivers the space-rock goods.

The opening track, “Speed Light Alpha,” wastes little time establishing the album’s trajectory. An arpeggiated synth bass locks into a tight groove beneath fast-paced drums, while ebow-driven guitar lines stretch outward, creating a sense of immediate lift-off. It’s a kinetic introduction that sets the tone for what follows.

“Return to Infinity” eases into a cruising rhythm, layering tremolo-heavy guitar lines that gradually interlock before cresting into a soaring, late-stage solo. That sense of gradual build and release carries into “Refracting Rays,” where vintage synth tones and a loose, almost playful riff give way to a funk-driven bassline. Subtle electronic textures flicker in the background, adding a slightly surreal edge without overwhelming the track’s core momentum.

Mid-album, “Trident” shifts toward a more introspective space. Shoegaze textures come into focus, with reverb-heavy guitars recalling the early work of Ride and The Verve. The track gradually dissolves into an extended, softer passage, where understated lead lines and tom-driven rhythms create a drifting, almost weightless atmosphere.

“Seeker” reintroduces a sense of urgency, anchored by an infectious bassline while guitars move freely across the stereo field, chasing and responding to one another. It’s one of the album’s most rhythmically immediate moments, grounding its more exploratory tendencies in groove.

Closing track “Divining Rods” unfolds in two distinct movements. The first leans into a slower, meditative pace, with mellotron textures and percussive elements shaping a raga-like framework. Around the midway point, the track pivots sharply, accelerating into a more forceful, high-velocity conclusion that echoes the album’s opening energy.

Across its runtime, Radiant Point draws from a wide palette—krautrock repetition, ’90s indie and alt-rock atmospherics, and echoes of late-’60s psychedelia—while maintaining a consistent throughline of motion and propulsion. The result is a cohesive release that feels less like a collection of tracks and more like a continuous journey.

Radiant Point arrives May 1, 2026, on streaming platforms, with digital purchase available via Bandcamp.
