San Diego heavy psych trio Phantom Logic leans into both elegance and abrasion on their debut Salton Dust, due out April 27. The first single, “Glyphwave,” is already out, and it sets the tone with a confident mix of groove and controlled chaos.
A key wrinkle here is Isaiah Mitchell of Earthless, whose guitar work and creative presence are baked into the record’s DNA. His influence doesn’t overpower the band so much as sharpen its edges, pushing the material into a more fluid, exploratory space.
The core lineup—Matthew Glenn Meyer (guitar), Kristofer Dawson (bass), and Kiran Sheshadri (drums)—locks into a tight chemistry. Salton Dust is getting a vinyl release via Glory or Death Records, an Oceanside, California, label steadily carving out its lane in the heavy underground.
“Glyphwave” doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a solid, no-nonsense blast of heavy psych, with twin guitars weaving through wah-soaked passages, anchored by a restless, driving rhythm section. It hits that sweet spot where familiarity becomes part of the appeal, delivering exactly the kind of scorched, head-nodding energy the genre thrives on.
