Formed in 2023 after a chance meeting at Karma Llama Records, Australia’s Organic Green Monster Machine began the way a lot of the best bands do: two people—Scotty Heytch and Dave James—bonding over a shared obsession. Seventies rock, the grit of the Seattle sound, the gravitational pull of stoner doom. One conversation turned into a jam session, and that jam session turned into something that, by their own account, never really stopped.
Now, with a growing catalog and their debut EP in progress, Organic Green Monster Machine is beginning to channel that raw, freeform energy into something more defined.
Their first single, “Slippery Elm,” arrived July 25, 2025, a first glimpse into a sound that sits somewhere between stoner rock and heavy psych.
We caught up with the band to talk about how it all came together, what keeps their jam sessions alive, and where they’re heading next.
Interview with Organic Green Monster Machine
Third Eye: Can you tell us a bit about your project/band and how it started?
Organic Green Monster Machine (OGMM): The OGMM project started when I ran into Scotty, who runs a local record store, Karma Llama Records, and we just got talking and realised we both had the same tastes in music, we decided to get together and jam and have been lucky to have a lot of friends who have also helped out and contributed to our sound. We currently have: Scotty on Guitar, Dan on Guitar, Graeme on Guitar/Keyboards, Ado on Drums, Dave on Bass/Vox.
Third Eye: What inspired your latest release?
OGMM: “Slippery Elm” was a concept about trees making a stand and fighting back against humanity. Our music starts with riffs, and we let the songs write themselves by jamming and seeing where they end up.
Third Eye: How would you describe your sound?
OGMM: Psychedelic Stoner Rock with hints of Doom, Prog, and heavy seventies vibe.
Third Eye: What does your creative process usually look like?
OGMM: One of the guys or I bring a groove or riff to the jam session, and we all dive in, and when it starts to evolve, I look for vox melodies and finally write the lyrics.
Third Eye: Where do you usually write or record your music?
OGMM: We are lucky to have our own studio (Middleton Studio) on my property here in Bridgetown, and have recently had our mate Graeme help out with mixing and final production
Third Eye: Who or what has been influencing you lately?
OGMM: We all love music, so we are all constantly listening to new releases in all genres, especially in metal, doom, hard rock, psych, prog, etc. I especially still love the old school seventies heavy rock and often go back and whack on a classic album by Sabbath, UFO, Rainbow, etc.
Third Eye: How do your live shows differ from your recordings?
OGMM: Live, we sound a lot heavier and louder.
Third Eye: Is there a particular track or piece of music you’ve made that you’re most proud of?
OGMM: We are quite happy with our last release, “Slippery Elm,” and we seem to be constantly evolving, pushing the boundaries of different genres, and really enjoying the outcomes.
Third Eye: What’s been the biggest challenge for you as an artist/band?
OGMM: Time is our biggest challenge, all members are juggling jobs, family, and everyday life 😂
Third Eye: What are you working on next?
OGMM: We have several new tunes in different stages. We have a follow-up to Dark Kings Curse titled The Raven Prince, which is in the final mixing stage, and a brand-new single titled Highway Song, which has a really cool groove and should be out soon, too. There are also three tunes based around the comet Atlas 31, which is gonna be a killer, stay tuned.
Third Eye: Where can people find your music and keep up with you?
OGMM: Our songs are released on all major music platforms, e.g., Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, and are also available on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
