I imagine Third Eye readers don’t need much of an introduction to the great Prairiewolf, but for those uninitiated to their cosmic jams, here’s a refresher …

Prairiewolf is a Colorado-based instrumental trio blending psychedelic, kosmische, ambient country, and spiritual jazz influences into expansive, high-altitude soundscapes.

Formed in 2022 by Stefan Beck (guitar, lap steel), Jeremy Erwin (keys, synths), and Tyler Wilcox (bass), the group quickly found a home in the experimental underground. Their self-titled debut, released in 2023 on Centripetal Force Records, introduced a sound rooted in cosmic improvisation and meditative textures, followed in 2024 by Deep Time, which deepened their exploration of spacey atmospheres and hypnotic grooves.

Prairiewolf crafts music that feels both earthy and otherworldly, equally suited to desert drives and stargazing sessions. And yes, they are a Third Eye favorite.

Stefan Beck is the man, myth, and sonic architect behind Golden Brown, an instrumental project that navigates ambient terrain while still bearing traces of psychedelia. I’m less familiar with the other members of Prairiewolf, but I do know that Tyler Wilcox of Aquarium Drunkard and the always-excellent Doom and Gloom from the Tomb blog is part of the mix.

While Golden Brown has a new record on the horizon, I’ve been digging through the treasure trove of Prairiewolf live recordings on the Internet Archive. As of this writing, there are 17 solid sets available, including a healthy number from 2025.

What’s especially refreshing is that the band makes all of these shows freely available. No paywalls, no Bandcamp upsell, just hours upon hours of cosmic, exploratory jamming at your fingertips.

This isn’t a formal review of any one show, but more of a friendly PSA for Third Eye readers: dive in. There’s a lot to love here if you enjoy immersive, instrumental journeys with a dusty, psychedelic pulse.
