Heavy psych heads, take note: Italy’s Electric Valley Records is back with another mind-melter. “Sleep Paralysis,” the debut single from power trio Basaltic Plateau, offers a first taste of their upcoming debut album Dead Dinosaurs Echoes, due out this October. Get ready for a dense, riff-heavy journey through cosmic sludge and seismic grooves.
On “Sleep Paralysis,” Basaltic Plateau channels heaviness through a swirling fusion of stoner grooves, noise rock abrasion, and psychedelic drift, all in just over four immersive minutes. With hypnotic repetition and a raw, exploratory edge, the trio crafts a soundscape that will resonate with fans of Elder, King Buffalo, and Earthless.
Basaltic Plateau carries a certain kinship with the ‘90s alternative underground, less in direct reference and more in attitude. Maurizio Cau’s guitar pushes out waves of feedback and thick, spatially disoriented tones. The use of synths adds another register, a bit destabilizing, like something geological pressing upward.
Marco Serra’s basslines stretch out like tectonic plates, pressure-heavy and always on the verge of collapse. Roberto Loscerbo’s drumming navigates the density with a steady hand, pulling subtle shifts into grooves.
It’s a must-add for your heavy psych playlist, and it’s already landed on The Third Eye’s Spotify rotation. We’re always here for crushing instrumental jams, and with Dead Dinosaurs Echoes dropping in October, Basaltic Plateau is firmly on our radar.
