Australia’s psych rock voyager and Third Eye favorite Trigona returns with Neon Wave, an easy, breezy, fuzz-soaked EP built for hazy afternoons and slow-motion summers, whether you’re basking in the northern hemisphere’s sun or daydreaming your way through the Aussie winter.
Following 2024’s Isophase and a split LP with io audio recordings, Neon Wave offers three instrumental tracks spanning 25 minutes, each shimmering with hypnotic delay, warm drones, and that ever-reliable motorik pulse. Trigona (aka Rob Shiels) leans deeper into laid-back psychedelia here, crafting grooves that feel equal parts beach jam and space odyssey.
Opener “Sun Valley” rides a thick, churning rhythm like asphalt melting under high sun. Guitars layer into a mirage of texture, swirling and bending with heatwave shimmer while a steady drumbeat anchors the movement.

“Strand” shifts into softer focus, inviting listeners to float on mellow tones and languid rhythms before launching into a shoegaze-drenched second half. Think Causa Sui meets early Verve, drifting toward the horizon with a cold brew in hand.
Closing track “Polaris” stretches past the 10-minute mark and ventures into full-blown space rock territory. A Happy Mondays-style bassline adds a danceable undercurrent while the guitar work shapeshifts across the track, building to a euphoric melodic crescendo. It’s expansive yet unhurried, psychedelia that wants you to chill, not chase the stars.
Though these tracks were recorded between 2022 and 2023, Neon Wave doesn’t feel like a leftovers dump. Instead, it’s a concise, sun-dappled release that radiates warmth and easy-going energy. With a new album on the horizon, this EP is a welcome transmission from Trigona’s world: laid-back, fuzzed out, and perfect for soundtracking your next adventure.
Available June 27th on Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms.
