Moscow’s fuzz-drenched power trio The Re-Stoned returns with The Loom, a digital single that serves as a teaser ahead of their 12th studio album, Astral Lizard. Known for their muscular riffs, swirling psych textures, and deep-rooted stoner rock instincts, The Re-Stoned have carved a loyal niche in the global underground.

But with The Loom, they stretch the boundaries of their sound, weaving together live energy, acoustic meditations, and cosmic heaviness into one extended offering.

The single’s title track appears in two forms: the album version, a tightly coiled piece of instrumental psychedelia where Ilya Lipkin’s guitar tone smolders with vintage tube amp heat, and a live rendition captured at Moscow’s Guitar Club that bristles with raw immediacy. Bassist Vladimir Kislyakov and drummer Eugeniy Kudryashov keep the low end thick and thunderous, grounding the sonic voyage in classic heavy psych tradition.

Additional live cuts—“Solaris” and “Northern Lights”—showcase the trio’s onstage firepower. They’re sprawling, immersive, and unhurried, spiraling into realms of echo and groove, with jammy momentum that recalls the early 2000s desert rock scene filtered through Russian grit.

But the true surprise comes in the latter half of the single. Three acoustic tracks—“Atmosphere,” “Electric Breath,” and “Lizard Footprint #1”—reveal a softer, more introspective side of the band.

These stripped-down explorations shimmer with restraint, enriched by guest appearances from Olga Scotland on flute, Evgeniy Tkachev on hand percussion, and Semyon Oskin’s blues harp, all adding layers of mysticism and texture. It’s a rare glimpse of The Re-Stoned unplugged, but still deeply psychedelic.

Recorded across several locations in 2024—from Rushus Studio to Veritas Cave—The Loom is less a conventional single and more a mini-odyssey. It’s an enticing signpost pointing toward Astral Lizard, and a rewarding detour in its own right, at once muscular, meditative, and mythic. Fans of Earthless, Colour Haze, and the golden fuzz of early Kyuss will find plenty to bask in here.
