Liquid Pennies return with “Tapered Scape,” a sharp, focused, and deeply exploratory single that continues to push their hybrid of neo-psych, post-punk, and electronic experimentation into new territory.

Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, the band—comprised of Chas Binns (vocals, guitar, synth), Tyson Mink (bass), and Pierson Whicker (drums)—has carved out a sound that refuses to sit still.

At its core, “Tapered Scape” is built around a tension between synthetic precision and raw instrumentation. E-drum pads and synth textures form the framework, but the live energy underneath drives the song forward.

The track explores themes of accountability and personal clarity. It’s about the moment when deflecting blame stops working and self-reflection becomes the only way forward. The emotional and thematic arc mirrors the musical one, escalating to a sharp peak and then returning to something more grounded and internal.

Mixed and mastered by Ryan Boesch of Candor Recording (credits include Melvins, Flaming Lips, Peaches, Helmet), the production is clean but not sterile. Every layer has space to breathe, and nothing is overstated.

“Tapered Scape” is the final preview before the band drops Fore, their upcoming full-length album, due this July via Threat Collection Records (Boesch’s new Tampa-based label). If the single is any indication, Fore isn’t aiming for nostalgia or easy genre tags. It’s reaching for something sharper, more present.

Liquid Pennies doesn’t follow a trend. They follow a thread, which keeps pulling the band in very interesting directions. Check ’em out.
