It’s been a cold and hectic month in Tennessee. I started a new job, and money’s been tight, but I’m trucking ahead.
A lot is going on in the states (obviously), like massive wildfires in L.A. and our new Supreme Leader taking office. I’m trying my best to block it all out.
I’ve decided to take a break from almost all social media, hopefully for a while. I had been thinking of it doing it for some time, but recently, I was noticing how shitty it was making me feel and its corrosive effects on me.
I had experimented with a Substack page for The Third Eye for about a month, but even that platform felt like a more intellectual form of doomscrolling. I hope I stick with the social media detox because it hasn’t been that long, and my mind already feels clearer, and I’m less triggered, angry, and depressed.
I also canceled my Spotify premium account and moved to Apple Music. All the playlists I created in the past are still available; I just likely won’t be updating them anymore.
Anyway, let me get off the soapbox and turn to this month’s music …
This month, we had a couple of great reissues from London-based Charly Records from classic psych bands The Red Crayola and The Nice.
Echodelick Records released the vinyl version of an excellent new album from Milan-based alt-rockers, Huge Molasses Tank Explodes.
The experimental ambient group numün also released a new record via Centripetal Force. Bob Holmes of SUSS is a member of the group, and I highly recommend you check out his Ambient Country podcast.
Lastly, we have an excellent new album called A Shaw Deal by Geologist and DS. Geologist is the multi-instrumentalist best known as a member of the experimental pop group Animal Collective.
January is usually slow for new releases, as the deluge of new music starts in March, so our list this month is thin. Nevertheless, some great new psychedelic music still exists to dig our teeth into.
Here’s The Third Eye’s favorite psychedelic music from January 2025:
- Tu n’es pas seul by Les Passengers
- III by Huge Molasses Tank Explodes
- Door 154 by Jack Erin Brown
- List of Demands by Damon Locks
- Quabbin Winter by Spectre Folk
- The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack by The Nice (reissue)
- A Shaw Deal by Geologist and D.S.
- Silence is Too Loud by Perfume Lungs (EP)
- Isidro by Rosa Bordallo
- The Parable of Arable Land by The Red Crayola (reissue)
- Opening by numün
I hope you had a great January and enjoy the tunes!
