Kawabata Makoto is the acid-freak guitarist and multi-instrumentalist best known as the mastermind behind the legendary Acid Mothers Temple

Renowned for his guitar heroics, Kawabata has also carved out his own unique school of ecstatic guitar drone, using innovative bowing and glissando techniques to create transcendent soundscapes.

His journey into experimental music began in 1978 with the release of works featuring electronics and homemade instruments. Since then, Kawabata’s prolific output and relentless creativity have spanned a dizzying array of projects and genres, defying easy categorization.

A new live record captures the psychedelic magic of Guru Guru Fest 2010, a collaboration that fuses the spirit of Krautrock with Acid Mothers Temple’s avant-garde energy.

At its heart is Acid Mothers Guru Guru, a supergroup uniting Krautrock pioneer Mani Neumeier (Guru Guru) with Kawabata Makoto and Tsuyama Atsushi (Acid Mothers Temple). Together, they channel the exploratory sound of early Guru Guru, merging past and present into a wild listening experience.

Also featured is Acid Mothers Temple SWR, a powerhouse trio comprising Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins), Kawabata Makoto, and Tsuyama Atsushi. This unit takes improvisation to extremes, delivering some of the most intense and hardcore performances under the Acid Mothers Temple banner.

The Guru Guru Fest tour, showcasing Acid Mothers Guru Guru, Acid Mothers Temple SWR, and Manitatsu (a duo of Mani Neumeier and Tatsuya Yoshida), offered a spectacle of unbridled creativity. These acts brought mind-bending psychedelia and ferocious improvisational jams.

Originally released on CD by Chaotic Noise Recordings in 2010, this updated version ensures that the spirit of Guru Guru Fest continues to inspire and captivate listeners with its blend of old and new. The five tracks on the release provide a blast of free-spirited jams that most psych-rock fans should love.
