Prepare to be entranced by Astral Mind, the trippy new album from Tropical Sludge, the solo project of Sydney/Eora-based artist Rick Burke.

Known for his role as guitarist in the heavy psych-space rock band Comacozer, Burke takes a bold detour into uncharted sonic realms with this seven-track odyssey of hypnotic psychedelia.

Astral Mind weaves a tapestry of Middle Eastern-inspired tones, ethereal surf melodies, and shadowy tribal rhythms. From shimmering sitar riffs to guitars drenched in reverb, the soundscape ebbs and flows alongside analog synths and drum machines.

Each track builds like a fever dream, slowly unfurling darker, more hallucinogenic textures that pull you deeper into its spell. Beware: this is music that doesn’t just captivate—it consumes.

This solo venture showcases Burke’s insatiable appetite for the experimental. Drawing on his love of the surreal and the trippy, he melds traditional and modern elements, exploring a kaleidoscope of sound through guitar pedals, analog synthesizers, and field recordings. Even foreign languages echo faintly through the layers, adding to the immersive, otherworldly experience.

If you’re ready for a sonic journey that dances between blissed-out tranquility and transcendent chaos, Astral Mind offers an excellent ride. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself lost in its hypnotic grooves.
