A new split album between Sula Bassana and Skyjoggers released in October perfectly encapsulates the raw energy and thrilling unpredictability that define both bands.
Tampere, Finland-based Skyjoggers launches into orbit on the LP, delivering two riff-driven tracks that showcase their progressive edge: the pulse-pounding “Step One: Breathe / Step Two: Levitate” and the electrifying “Lightrunner” from their acclaimed release 37 Steps ’til Sunlight.
After soaring through these sonic journeys, they ease into the ethereal and otherworldly jam “…For Outer Space,” a fan-favorite that has been a cornerstone of their live shows since their 2018 debut album Journeymen.
Recorded live during their monumental 100th performance in the vibrant city of Hamburg, this split album is a fitting celebration of Skyjoggers’ journey through sound, space, and connection to psychedelic music. Joining forces with their new friends in Sula Bassana is the ultimate way to honor this milestone.
On the flip side, the timeless magic of Dave Schmidt’s long-standing solo project, Sula Bassana, shines through with the band’s latest chapter.
Since solidifying a live lineup in 2023, Sula Bassana’s live presence has reached new heights, and this split album captures two unforgettable performances.
The hypnotic “We Will Make It” from the album Nostalgia swells with emotion, while the fresh and spontaneous “Come With Me”—a collaborative creation featuring words and guitarwork by Adrian—takes listeners on an improvisational voyage.
Both tracks are memories of a legendary night at the Dazed & Spaced Festival in Hamburg, where Skyjoggers’ cosmic energy and the evening camaraderie left an indelible mark.
You can get the vinyl from the great Echodelick Records and purchase the digital versions from Sula Bassana and Skykjoggers’ Bandcamp pages. It’s a great collection of spacey psych music with elements of krautrock and an acid-rock edge. Enjoy!
