numün is a collaboration between Bob Holmes of SUSS/Across the Horizon, Christopher Romero, and Joel Mellin of Gamelan Dharma Swara. With their third album on the horizon, numün continues to defy convention with their unique fusion of “opiated psychedelia” and “loose-limbed minimalism.”
Their music is an intricate blend of wonder and unease—each track a journey that “conjures the appropriate mix of trepidation and awe.”
The first single and title track is already out, and the full album, Opening, will be released on January 29, with each step in the process carefully timed to align with the phases of the new moon. numün’s music is a lullaby to fall awake to, coaxing listeners into meditative, lucid dreaming.

Described as “savvy navigators of paths less traveled,” this NYC trio of multi-instrumentalists delves into ambient psychedelia that stretches its arms from East to West. Their sound is an evocative blend of ambient country tones interwoven with global influences.
Opening will be released through Centripetal Force (US) and Where It’s At Is Where You Are (UK). Composed of eight immersive tracks, the new record explores ambient, pastoral psychedelia that draws inspiration from the krautrock vibes of Popol Vuh and Harmonia, merging with the sun-soaked desert echoes of Bruce Langhorne.
The trio’s richly layered arrangements feature a diverse array of instruments: the cumbuz (a Turkish fretless 12-string banjo), Balinese gamelan (metallophones and gongs), piano, bass flute, violin, guitar, electronics, and synthesizers.
For this album, the trio has expanded to welcome Victoria Lo Mellin (Dharma Swara) on flute and bass flute and Willa Roberts (Black Sea Hotel) on violin and vocals, adding even more depth and texture to their compositions.
numün began their journey in 2019 by releasing their debut single, “Tranquility Base,” commemorating the moon landing for London’s Where It’s At Is Where You Are label. Following this, they released two acclaimed full-length albums.
Their debut album, Voyage Au Soleil, was released on their label, Musique Impossible, followed by Book of Beyond, launched with Kramer’s Shimmy Disc (the label behind legends like Galaxie 500, Butthole Surfers and Bill Frisell).
numün continues to stretch boundaries and redefine the listening experience, bringing us the solace of ambient music in challenging times. Their music invites you to explore a place where ambient psychedelia, minimalism, and global sounds meet in a state of serene introspection.
