Hollow Drifter is a heavy psych band that journeys through shape-shifting melodies and expansive, epic jams. They craft hypnotic soundscapes that draw you in, blurring the lines between genres. Their music is a swirling blend of psychedelic and progressive influences, an immersive brew that soars and stomps, taking you to new heights while keeping your feet firmly grounded.

The group’s motto: The simplest of things, when combined, create intricate layers of complexity. But this complexity isn’t meant to be obscure or distant—it’s always in service of the music, inviting listeners into the experience.

In addition to Hollow Drifter’s electric sound, they’ve also nurtured an acoustic alter ego. Here, their songs transform into tender, indie-folk gems reimagined with a softer touch. Think gentle woodwinds, lush vocal harmonies, and an intimate atmosphere that feels like a warm embrace. It’s a different facet of their music that breathes delicacy and introspection into every note.

Founded in 2019 and rooted in Amsterdam, Hollow Drifter continues to evolve, always seeking new ways to merge the ethereal with the earthly.

The band recently released a new single, “Blizzard Wizard,” from their forthcoming LP, Devolve, due November 1st. They plan to release a second single, “The Banner Has An Eye,” on October 18th, so keep your eyes peeled.

“Blizzard Wizard” is a fun prog-meets-psych-rock jam that stretches on for even-plus minutes and reminded me a bit of KGLW, especially in the eccentric vocals and ability of the group to create a wild, all-encompassing rock sound.

The track is a sprawling, hypnotic piece that embodies heavy psych’s rich, atmospheric textures while weaving in the slow-burning groove of stoner rock and complex rhythms of progressive rock. Grounded yet dreamlike, the song’s structure ebbs and flows, morphing from one musical landscape to another.

When you think “Blizzard Wizard” is about to settle, it shifts, carrying you deeper into its technicolor soundscape. There are moments when the heavy riffs return, crashing like a storm, only to dissipate into shimmering, spacey atmospheres.
