The Third Eye

L.A.-based Chicano Batman is back with two new singles from their forthcoming album, Notebook Fantasy, due on March 29th. Since forming in 2008, the band has followed its own vision to tremendous heights, with its journey beginning in local dive bars and recently taking them to co-headlining the legendary Hollywood Bowl. Talk about a rise to the top.

In making their new album, Chicano Batman worked with producer John Congleton to double down on their hyper-creative tendencies, discovering new dimensions of their music while infusing the lyrics with an unflinching honesty.

Chicano Batman comprises Eduardo Arenas (bass, guitar), Carlos Arevalo (guitars, keyboards), and Bardo Martinez (vocals, keyboards, guitars), and the two singles off the album are “Era Primavera” and “Fly.”

“Era Primavera” is a dreamy neo-psychedelic track with the band’s signature Latin and tropical vibes. The Spanish-spoken lyrics give it an exotic feel, with a beautiful chorus harkening back to the Sixties and occasional bursts of trippy electronic effects.

“Fly” is a funkier song perfect for hot discotheque nights, seeing Bardo Martinez opt for English lyrics this time. The sensuous beats and vocals drip with sex appeal as the band reaches delicious heights while Bardo sings, “I don’t care what the limits are.” No limits, no rules, just pure fun.

Fans of Sugar Candy Mountain and other modern psych like Temples should enjoy the two new tracks from Chicano Batman if they don’t know about them already.
