Best Psychedelic Music of January 2024

The first month of 2024 is in the books. While the state of the world didn’t get much better, we did have a solid month of new psychedelic music.

Less fortunate news: I got laid off from my full-time job in early January, but I’m doing surprisingly okay. Much of my time this month was spent applying for new work and doing various freelance assignments. However, I made time to listen to and write about new music on the blog. I also posted fun new “This Day in Rock History” posts on The Third Eye Patreon page.

Two of the biggest psychedelic releases from January 2024 came from French heavy psych/stoner rockers SLIFT and the ever-popular psych/garage rocker Ty Segall. We also saw new music from Polish psych wizard A.J. Kaufmann, a new release from the Hungary-based Psychedelic Source Records, and a new album from the devastatingly heavy stoner rocker from Argentina, Black Sky Giant.

Here’s my list of favorite psychedelic releases from this past month, spanning across subgenres from experimental ambient psychedelia to heavy psych:

I’ve included the usual Spotify playlist with some tracks from these records below. But as always, note that many of these albums are only on Bandcamp at the moment – and supporting these artists on BC is the way to go.

I hope your start to 2024 has been good, and I hope you dig some of the records I picked for this month. Enjoy!

Parting words: “Welcome, winter. Your late dawns and chilled breath make me lazy, but I love you nonetheless.” – Terri Guillemets
