Barcelona-based heavy psych rockers Saturna are returning with a new album via Spinda Records and Discos Macarras on December 1 and have announced the release of a new single, “The Never Ending Star.” We’re told the new record – The Reset – is their best material to date, but we’ll let you be the judge of that.

The Third Eye is proud to present the premiere of the new single “The Never Ending Star” via our friends at Spinda Records. Check it out below:

“The Never Ending Star” blends ethereal melodies and dazzling keyboard arrangements and captures the essence of Saturna’s signature heavy psych style. At five minutes and thirty-two seconds, the new single contains high-energy riffs that should be good for stoner rock fans. The distorted vocals also give a vintage vibe, mixing Seventies-styled hard rock with psychedelia.

I hadn’t heard of the band before, but we’re told they’re one of the key hard psych-rock bands in the Spanish scene, along with Cachemira, Electric Alley, and Zålomon Grass. After listening to the new single and the rest of the new album, I like how they borrow many elements from old-school metal, such as the theatric vocals and sizzling guitar solos.

Saturna was formed in 2010, and The Reset will be their fifth studio album. Last year, they released a split LP with Electric Monolith called Turned To Stone Chapter 4: Higher Selves.

Random thoughts about The Reset title: What are we resetting here? Our consciousness? Is the music inspiring some type of transformation? The last track on the new album is called “A Way to Reset,” and I’m hoping the band offers a how-to manual on consciousness-raising.

Some journalists also called the pandemic in 2020 “The Great Reset” – as in resetting our global society and how we do things. Remember all those conspiracy theories? None of this has anything to do with Saturna’s new album, but I figured I’d mention it.

The Reset will be released as a collaboration between Spinda Records and Discos Macarras, and you can pre-order a physical copy on Spinda Records’ Bandcamp page. The digital edition includes live bonus tracks of “A National Acrobat” by Black Sabbath, “Come Together” by The Beatles, “Five to One” by The Doors, and “Who Knows” by Jimi Hendrix.

Saturna went into the studio with about 25 demos, eventually narrowed down to the ten tracks on The Reset. Jondix, a regular collaborator with Tool, created the terrific album cover art.

The Reset will be released in digital, compact disc, and double edition on vinyl, limited to 100 copies in black and 200 copies in clear green. Enjoy!
