When we last checked in with DAVi MUSiC, the Chicago-based ambient producer was preparing the release of On By (Aural Canyon, April 2024), a dreamy experiment riffing on the tape cuts of Bitches Brew. David Feddock, the man behind DAVi MUSiC, described it as having “a different kind of flow than any of my previous releases … more like a DJ set than an album.”
DAVi MUSiC returns with The Nectar of Now, out September 17th via Aural Canyon and Flow State Records, with a limited vinyl pressing (100 copies) by Smashed Plastic. Where On By leaned into looping abstractions, this new collection turns toward gentle, guitar-led spirituals. The atmosphere remains calm and meditative, but the delivery is more immediate.
Since 2018, Feddock has released several albums across various labels and landed on playlists such as Ambient Ritual, Electronic Drift, and Modular Synth Ambient Tape. His work often weaves minimalist repetition with subtle tape processing, creating pieces that invite quiet contemplation. But The Nectar of Now pares things down even further. The repetition remains, but instead of processed loops, we hear stripped-back folk melodies. They are simple, almost childlike, yet emotionally resonant.
Side A moves through “Hey Lolly, Lolly” and “Red River Valley,” before softening into “Jacob’s Ladder” and “Dona Nobis Pacem,” the latter featuring violin alongside Feddock’s guitar for a rustic charm. Side B continues with “Home on the Range,” “Shenandoah,” and the paired spirituals “Michael, Row the Boat Ashore / What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor.”
I’ve found myself returning to The Nectar of Now repeatedly over the past few weeks. It’s soothing and unhurried, equally suited for background listening or deeper immersion. True to its title, the record is a quiet meditation on presence, simplicity, and the beauty of the everyday moment.
