Five years after their last full-length, Calgary’s groove-laden riff trio Woodhawk returns with Love Finds a Way, their most mature and emotionally resonant work to date. Out now on all platforms, the album channels the band’s signature blend of fuzzy stoner rock and arena-sized hooks, but layers it with a newfound vulnerability and introspective depth.
The lineup—Turner Midzain (guitar/vocals), Mike Badmington (bass), and Kevin Nelson (drums)—poured years of lived experience into these tracks. The result is a record that balances cathartic riff worship with messages of endurance, loss, healing, and hope.
Turner Midzain says about the record …
“This is the longest it’s taken to put out an album for us, and I think that shows. We really took our time and did it on our terms. I think you get some really riff rocking songs, but also a lot of hardship and honesty in it. We poured our heart and soul into this one. It really is a journey of getting out of the darkness and into the light. Check in with your friends and loved ones. Hug the ones you love. Be nicer to each other. Love will always prevail and be stronger than anything else.”
Love Finds a Way hits hard where it needs to—thick grooves, soaring vocals, and searing leads abound—but it’s the emotional weight beneath the fuzz that elevates it. Synth work from longtime collaborator Jesse Gander adds texture without compromising the trio’s raw power.
Recommended for fans of The Sword, Red Fang, and Thin Lizzy, the album serves as a rallying cry for compassion in challenging times.
With upcoming album release shows in Calgary (June 14) and Edmonton (June 13), and a slot at Loud As Hell Festival (Aug 3), Woodhawk proves they’re not only back, but evolving. Ten years in, and they’re still just getting started.
