Midnight Rodeo’s debut album, Chaos Era, swaggers into the room in platform boots and paisley. The Nottingham-based six-piece, now signed to FatCat Records, have bottled the potent magic of their sweat-slicked, sold-out shows and poured it into 40 minutes of giddy psych-disco delight.
Born during the COVID daze, the band has slowly morphed into a kind of local supergroup, fusing members from Sancho Panza, Cherry Hex and The Dream Church, The Hijinks, and others.
Their sound is Dadaist pop chaos: basslines moonlighting as brass sections, drums carrying melodies, and guitars surfing West Coast frequencies while the rhythm section dances under a mirrorball.
Chaos Era was made during a 10-day rural escape deep in the Welsh countryside, where incense, heat, and whiskey oiled 16-hour sessions with producer Franklin Mockett. There were no distractions—just vintage amps, analogue tape, and six people hell-bent on making great music.
This is a coming-of-age record made by a band that actually likes each other. You can hear it. Every track vibrates with ecstatic cohesion—a sonic bond formed through heartbreak, hope, and relentless gigging.
Midnight Rodeo doesn’t want to change the world. They want you to dance. Maybe cry a little. But mostly dance.
The debut record is due for release on July 11th. Check it out.
