Montreal’s underground noise-rock warlords, En Fer, is back and building bridges between dimensions. Their upcoming album, À propos des diverses formes de Passerelles, is a metaphysical mind-fucker inked in feedback, alchemical texts, and gut-born guitar wails.
Building off the head-splitting GROS ROCK (2023) and the comet-streaked La Collision (2024), En Fer are cosmic cartographers of chaotic noise and improvisational psychedelia that combine the feverish intellect of mad professors with the toughness of street brawlers.
Their latest transmission is their most refined detonation yet, crafted alongside Dominic Jasmin and set for release on CD, digital, and an absurdly cool limited edition reel-to-reel for those who really want to feel the hiss of the void.
The concept of the record is passerelles—astral bridges, soul-ramps, and freaky little ladders for transcendence that guide the soul through the chaosmos of the universe. Inspired by a deeply fascinating apocryphal text developed by the band, each track represents a different step on the cosmic ladder to enlightenment.
“The Ether and Universal Intelligence” rips open the gate with punky talons and shrieking electronics. Think hawk-dive into a Moog hurricane.
“The Astral Fire and Ferrous Alchemy” oozes molten riffs and synth flames, like doom metal got lost in a particle accelerator.
“The Moon and Philosophical Sulphur” is a deep drone, the sound of shadows studying themselves, climaxing in cathartic chaos.
“The Dawn and Celestial Void” closes it all in collapsing tranquility. Feedback becomes mist floating through space. Time folds. You exhale.
En Fer’s apocryphal text ends with this fitting statement:
“May your path be illuminated by the fires of the Art du Fer, and may you, in your quest, rediscover the true Self. May the light of these Passerelles guide you toward the GROS ROCK.”
En Fer (comprised of Charly Buss, Michel Meunier, Reüel Ordoñez, Martin Sasseville, and Alex Pelchat) is a collective of interstellar maniacs who fuse noise and gnosis, and they are, in The Third Eye’s humble opinion, one of the most unique and creative psych-rock bands in the global underground.
Their April 29th album launch at Montreal’s Blue Dog (with co-conspirators Tempête Solaire) promises to be one hell of a show.
