San Diego’s Chorduroy isn’t here to chill. They’re here to burn the house down.
Born from surfboards and distortion pedals, the motley quartet (fronted by Taylor Sandoval and drummer Leland Schenk, former co-workers at Pacific Beach’s surf school) has morphed from surf punkers into full-blown sonic warlocks.
Their debut LP, Voice of Reason, produced by Eric Bauer (Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Meatbodies), is a fuzz-drenched transmission from some surf shack on Mars. It’s a heat-hazy cocktail of garage/psych, punk, and even stoner metal, shaking with desert hallucinations and feedback-soaked catharsis.
The brand-new video for “Pawns”, the record’s most popular single, is a VHS-vision quest wrapped in psych-punk chaos. Warped tape and analog seizure visuals make it feel like a bad trip broadcast on a thrift store VCR.

Formed in 2019, Chorduroy started with beachy hooks and youthful energy, but lineup shifts brought evolution. Tracks like “Alien Mask” off their debut record hit like a space station mosh pit: unrelenting, swirling, tribal.
Check out the new video for “Pawns,” and while you’re at it, queue up last year’s Voice of Reason for some full-throttled psychedelic jams. We think you’ll dig it.
