NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has been peering into the cosmic abyss, revealing some unsettling secrets. Its latest revelation: some physicists say we might all be swirling inside a black hole’s belly (that’s no April Fool’s joke, either).

Given how absurd our world is, this may make sense.

It may also explain the origins of psychedelic music. Maybe some artists tap into that crazy black-hole energy and turn it into something exquisite.

In March, many of those bands and artists gave us new soundtracks to the cosmic frenzy. Nashville’s Adjustable Mustard delivered their self-titled debut LP, refining their bluesy stoner rock into something truly special.

Elf Freedom – a psych collective no stranger to the celestial – once again tapped into astral energy, bottled it up, and offered it to us in auditory form with Visions of Utopia. Meanwhile, Oakland’s Aux Meadows delivered Draw Near, an ambient country record perfect for peering into the mysteries of the night sky.

Lest we forget, Centripetal Force continued to deliver the goods with two mind-scrambling instrumental records from Gnäw and Iranian folk mystic Mohammad Mostafa Heydarian.

Black hole or not—just press play and ride the spiral.
