Los Babriks’ El Vuelo del Babrik is a hallucinatory ride through the heart of South America’s musical soul. Like a lost cassette dug up from a sun-scorched marketplace, it oozes the warm, analog pulse of chicha guitars, shimmering organ waves, and deep reggae undercurrents.
Led by Mauricio-Joran Ceseña, the six-piece Munich-based outfit conjures a timeless groove that bridges the golden age of Peruvian Cumbia with the heady freedom of modern psychedelia.
The album thrives on movement. The percussion section—Hector Tapia Castillo’s arsenal of congas, bongos, and timbales—creates a hypnotic foundation, locking in with rolling basslines to form an unstoppable rhythmic engine.
Electric guitar and organ engage in a swirling, sunlit dialogue, while Castillo steps forward on “Para Ti,” a Bachata-infused moment that expands the record’s sonic horizons.
Mixed analog on a Tascam 388, every note feels alive, drenched in vintage warmth. Umberto Echo’s mastering seals it all with a golden sheen. This is music for dance floors, backroom jam sessions, and long, winding nights under neon lights.
El Vuelo del Babrik lands via One World Records on April 4th. Vinyl hunters, take note: the wax is limited.
