Like a mirage shimmering on the horizon of a sonic desert, Oase—the sophomore LP from Berlin-based progressive rockers Weite—materializes as both a mirage and a monument.

A sprawling, hour-long expedition into the farthest reaches of psychedelic delirium, Oase (German for “Oasis”) is a prismatic fever dream. It refracts the golden age of ‘70s cosmic rock through a kaleidoscope of Canterbury prog, motorik hypnosis, spectral Americana, and the echoes of early electronica.

Where their 2023 debut, Assemblage, was a freeform tapestry of soundscapes and intuition, Oase is a different beast—still expansive, still boundless, but now with a gravitational pull.

These compositions breathe, swell, and evolve like living organisms, coalescing into something resembling “songs” if you squint hard enough. Expect textures upon textures, melodies unraveling like ancient scrolls, and rhythms that seem to tap into the pulse of something deep beneath the earth’s crust.

Weite’s origins lie in a serendipitous Berlin winter in 2022 when bassist Ingwer Boysen (delving) summoned drummer Nick DiSalvo (Elder, delving) and guitar conjurers Michael Risberg (Elder, delving) and Ben Lubin (Lawns) for what was meant to be a one-off experiment.

Instead, something alchemical happened. The music refused to be contained. The experiment became a band. In 2024, the ranks expanded with the arrival of keyboard sorcerer Fabien de Menou (Perilymph), adding yet another dimension to Weite’s ever-expanding sonic multiverse.

Step inside the Oase. It may not be what it seems.
