Formed in the picturesque town of Faenza, Italy, in 2016, Mondaze emerged as a powerful voice in the shoegaze scene, carving out a niche with its unique blend of raw intensity and dreamlike soundscapes.

They first caught listeners’ attention with their 2018 demo, Healing Dreams, but their 2021 debut album, Late Bloom, solidified their identity. A mesmerizing cocktail of fuzz-drenched shoegaze, grunge immediacy, downtempo melancholy, and hardcore grit, the album marked them as a band unafraid to wear their emotions on their sleeve while pushing sonic boundaries.

In 2024, Mondaze returns with Linger, their highly anticipated sophomore album, released on November 22 via Bronson Recordings. Linger takes listeners on a journey through alienation and modern disconnection, showcasing a matured sound that masterfully balances celestial melodies with crushing walls of noise.

A poignant message accompanies the album: “We don’t want to return to normal because normal was the problem.”

This declaration encapsulates the album’s ethos. Through its lyrics and soundscapes, Linger holds up a mirror to the relentless grind of contemporary life—a loop of jarring alarms, suffocating commutes, soulless productivity, and hollow consumerism.

Mondaze captures the monotony of reheated meals, overstimulation by endless streaming, and the quiet despair of chasing rest just to face another day of exhaustion. It’s a diary of frustration, offering a critique of and escape from the cycle.

Thematically, Linger delves into memory and loss, resistance and renewal. The album explores duality: the fragility of ethereal melodies contrasts with thunderous crescendos, creating a sound that is as haunting as it is cathartic. The balance speaks to the band’s growth, refining their “heavy shoegaze” signature.

Inspired by the shoegaze titans of the past—Swervedriver and Ride—as well as contemporary innovators like Nothing and Ringo Deathstarr, Mondaze draws from deep roots while cultivating a distinctively modern sound. With Linger, they’ve channeled their influences into something uniquely their own: a melancholic yet defiant anthem of our times.

For this album, the band collaborated with heavyweight producers Chris Fullard (Idles, Boris) on mixing and Maurizio Baggio (The Soft Moon, Boy Harsher) on mastering. Together, they sculpted a sonic landscape that is both timeless and forward-thinking. The arrangements weave lush atmospheres with an eerie undercurrent, creating a hypnotic and ferocious album.

Mondaze’s Linger is a manifesto for those feeling crushed by the weight of modern life. Its sound wraps you in waves of noise and melody, at once confronting and comforting—an ode to alienation and a rallying cry for anyone yearning to break free from the grind.
