Amid the multi-million-dollar clusterfuck of Nashville’s country music hit machine, there’s plenty of unique music being made elsewhere in the city. Ambient country guitar hero William Tyler and stoner rock bands like Dead Runes and spooky garage-rockers Miss Lonely are in Nashville.
Another band carving out space in the Nashville scene is Saturns Day, the city’s favorite “spacegaze ” rockers. Established in 2021, we’ve covered Saturns Day before, and they’ve released a new single, “Sound Show,” an evolution of their sound that the group is very excited about.
Saturns Day tells me “Sound Show” ushers in a new era for the band – and I get the impression they don’t use the term “era” in the same sense as Taylor Swift.
Building on the momentum of their Lost In Space record from earlier this year, “Sound Show” pushes Saturns Day further into interstellar territory. The song combines the raw drones of shoegaze with space-rock tones, adding some extended jams and guitar flair for good measure.
What’s also great about Saturns Day is that the lead vocals have a faux British accent, which they’ve told me is a bit of an inside joke. Fun!
If you dig “Sound Show,” check out Saturns Day’s previous work, including Lost In Space and their debut self-titled record from 2023. And if you’re ever in Nashville, stay the hell away from Broadway and look them up.
