Orbits has quickly captivated audiences since its explosive debut at Oslo Jazz this year when it performed to a completely sold-out crowd.

Their singles “Synthetic Sweetness” and “Falling Apart” have received a wave of positive reviews, revealing a band with a rare talent for building danceable beats that pulse with energy and evoke deep emotions in their listeners.

Comprised of the trio Natalie Sandtorv, Lars Horntveth, and Erlend Mokkelbost, Orbits is a convergence of diverse musical universes. Each member brings a unique flavor, merging backgrounds in R&B, noise, jazz, punk, indie rock, and orchestral music into something fresh and daring.

Orbits isn’t a melting pot; it’s more like a galaxy, where distinct musical forms gravitate towards each other, creating something greater and more electrifying than the sum of their parts.

With the release of the Bad Mantras EP, the band has pushed their sound further, blending rich orchestration with experimental layers. Here, instrumental passages weave through infectious pop hooks, intricate sound collages, and strings inspired by Brazilian legend Arthur Verocai.

Orbits also tap into the modern psych-jazz sensibility, a genre that bends space and time in sound, exploring themes and rhythms that defy easy classification.

Much like psychedelic jazz, Orbits keeps their listeners slightly off-balance, building tension and release with unexpected chord changes and tempo shifts.

It’s music that encourages immersion, inviting listeners to lose themselves in the sonic elements—sometimes unsettling, often euphoric, and always captivating. They create music that paints scenes in the mind, transporting audiences to a place where boundaries dissolve in a haze of rich, surreal harmonies.

Bad Mantras offers a preview of their upcoming album, which will be released in the new year. Orbits thrives on pushing limits, redefining jazz for the modern era, and bending genres until the final product is refreshingly original.
