Sear is the newest sonic journey from maximalist guitarist Mike Vest’s solo project, Lush Worker, released on October 25th via Cruel Nature Records. It’s a deep dive into fiery guitar landscapes and hypnotic noise psychedelia.
Vest’s signature sound roars to life, with layers of smoldering riffs and immersive drone-rock atmospheres that pulse through the single 38-minute track.
The album is an intense yet blissful odyssey, combining raw power with a mesmerizing, almost trance-like ambiance. For fans of maximalist guitar explorations, Sear is a visceral, unrelenting soundscape that dares listeners to lose themselves in its vast, electrifying depths.
We recently covered one of Vest’s other projects, Depth Charms, in which he teamed up with drummer Nick Raybould on Ver Sessions to deliver another powerful, immersive collection of harsh guitar-driven soundscapes.
On Sear, Vest takes the experimentation even further. The raw, scuzzy textures and unpredictable electronic elements keep everything off-kilter, with reverberating guitar riffs stretched over open expanses. It’s all punctuated by shimmering distortions, fuzzed-out tones, and a strange ambiance that haunts the background like radio static from another dimension.
Sear is a record that rejects simplicity, where scuzz-rock grit meets post-rock expansiveness, and electronic noise becomes an aggressive part of the messy, complex whole. Vest has created an evocative, textural experience on the album that’s a challenging listen but a great one nonetheless.
