Step into a world where music weaves a spell as powerful as the solstice. Los Angeles-based psychedelic collective Elf Freedom recently unveiled a new LP, Solstice. Like the celestial event it’s named after, Solstice marks a transformative experience—a journey through sound that draws you into a world of transcendent beauty.
Each track on Solstice is a portal to another realm, where harmonies shimmer like moonlight in enchanted forests, and soulful, trippy instrumentation carries you on a wave of hypnotic energy.
The interplay between voice and instrument is like an ancient ritual, a dance of sound that speaks directly to the soul. It’s as if the songs have been written in the secret language of the cosmos, understood only by those who listen with their hearts open.

Formed in 2018, Elf Freedom are sonic alchemists that turn sound into an immersive healing experience. Lead vocalist Nora Keyes, a seasoned sound healer, channels her voice like an elven guide leading you through a mystical woodland, while Bee Appleseed, a multi-instrumentalist and musical archivist, creates a landscape where every note is a step deeper into the unknown.
Collaborating with fellow sonic explorers like Mirage, Noel Rhodes, ZZ Ryder, Paul Kaufman, and Tonya Lee Jaynes, Elf Freedom stretches the boundaries of psychedelic sound. Elf Freedom aims to help people feel more connected to nature and create sonic experiences that transcend the stresses of daily life.
The band has played over 100 shows in Los Angeles and toured the U.S. and Europe twice. Their concerts range from delicate sound baths where audiences lie on the floor to louder rock-oriented performances, occasionally featuring multiple guest appearances from friends.
Given the improvised nature of Elf Freedom’s music, no two shows are ever alike, and each performance is recorded and archived for later release (as you can see for yourself on their Bandcamp page).
Listening to Solstice, I was reminded of the practice of sacred chanting in many spiritual traditions. Nora’s angelic chants and mesmerizing vocals accompany the psychedelic folk instrumentation, creating divine free-form jams that float in the ether.
Bee plays bass and rhythm guitar on the record, while the incredibly psychedelic lead guitar riffs come from Rocco (Mirage). Bee told us that Rocco is a huge contributor to the record and its sound.
So, as winter solstice approaches (December 21st), prepare to let go of the ordinary and step into the extraordinary. Elf Freedom’s Solstice celebrates light, darkness, and the spaces in between. Enjoy!
