GHOST:WHALE is an electrifying new band born in the heart of Brussels in October 2021. The group comprises veterans from some of the city’s most ferocious acts, including members of punk rockers Frau Blücher and the Drunken Horses, the chaotic energy of Missiles of October, and the industrial sludge pioneers [P.U.T.].
Their debut album was recorded at Magasin4 during an intense two-day session on January 20-21, 2022. They celebrated with an end-of-residency concert on January 22nd, solidifying their place in the underground scene.
Since then, GHOST:WHALE has played with a host of killer bands, sharing the spotlight with the likes of Bear, SUMA (SE), Pound (US), Opium Heaven, Stakattak, Slovenians, Brorlab, Pneumatic Head Compressor, Gura, and Krakenizer, just to name a few.
After a year of work, the new double album of GHOST:WHALE is out on double CD digipak with eight tracks (five on the first CD and the three concept “dub whale” tracks on the second). The album was released on October 4th.
The album is available for free digitally, and a vinyl version with different songs is planned for January 2025.
From the moment the record begins, you’re drawn into an otherworldly soundscape that feels much different than most stoner metal. Every riff, feedback scream, and heavy, bone-shaking rhythm is haunting and drenched in sludge.
Blending the grinding weight of doom and the chaos of noise rock, Ghost:Whale also brings the rawness of punk and experimental sounds to conjure eight tracks that feel less like music and more like a heavy-metal séance.
Throughout the record, droning guitar riffs echo like the distant howls of forgotten souls while crushing drums pound like the pulse of some ancient evil. The bass growls through the mix, creating stoner/doom metal at its most primal.
In Dive:Two, Ghost:Whale captures the essence of a haunted sound. Every track is restless, raw, and filled with the dread of the unknown.
