With the spooky season upon us, let’s dig into some Halloween-themed psychedelia, shall we? Zak Olsen, the man behind the hypnotic guitar riffs of Australian doom-psych band Orb, has recently released his eagerly awaited solo album, Ghost Notes, under the alias Traffik Island.
These 12 Esoteric Instrumentals for Ethereal Beings, released on September 27th, feel like a surreal journey through a spectral dimension. They blend folk melodies, jazz rhythms, and swirling psychedelic soundscapes.
It’s as if you’re wandering through a haunted house on an acid trip, where tracks like “Pandemonium!”—featuring Kenny Ambrose-Smith of King Gizzard—create exhilarating moments of chaos, while pieces like “Winds” conjure eerie folk-horror atmospheres.
Ghost Notes delivers an enchanting listening experience with enough ghostly charm to bewitch fans of esoteric instrumentals and spooky soundscapes alike.
The record comes from the wicked U.K.-based label Library of the Occult, which regularly features esoteric electronics, dungeon jazz, and wizard-psych sounds on limited vinyl releases. The label’s mantra is “music for goblins, wizards, and dungeon masters.”
Rather than providing a long-ish review describing the music, The Third Eye urges you to immediately check out these psych-horror sounds for yourself. This is a freaked-out and psyched-out Monster Mash not to be missed. Enjoy!
