A killer new self-titled EP from Arequipa, Peru’s La Terminal, comes to us from We, Here, And Now Recordings and will turn your brain into stew.
The opening blast from these Peruvian rockers is a searing display of relentless riffage and melodic power, embedding itself deep into your consciousness with each electrifying note. These new recordings are a force that will echo in your ears long after the final chord fades.
The EP only consists of three songs, so it’s a little taster of acid punk from South America that will keep you coming back for more. You also won’t find much information about this group online, so you’re in for a little secret on this one. It doesn’t get much more far underground than this. I’d even say that this La Terminal EP is so far down that it’s subterranean.
La Terminal is a duo of Jose Maria Malaga Chuquitaype on guitar and Jorge Alfonso Ramirez Gonzalez Del Riego on drums. For only two people, they sure make a lot of noise! “La Culpa” smacks you in the face at the EP’s start with heavy distortion and snarling guitar and drums. It’s a powerful start that sets the brutal tone for the EP’s relentless intensity.
“Samsara” packs the gritty defiance of grunge, the brooding intensity of goth, and the swirling chaos of psych rock into a potent two-plus minutes of mayhem. The vocals echo like a voice calling from the abyss.
“Irijua” is the longest track at over five minutes, plunging the listener into its dark and violent acid-punk world. The pounding drums, reverb-drenched guitar, and ethereal vocals create a sense of disorientation and haunting transcendence.
The chaotic noise of La Terminal’s EP offers a wild, mind-bending trip into the dark corners where punk, grunge, and psychedelia merge to create something, as the Metallica song goes, that should not be. The aggressive energy and brooding atmosphere will blow your speakers apart and maybe tear a hole through your walls. If you’re down for that type of auditory punishment, check it out.
