Many folk-rock bands these days claim their music is heavily inspired by the greats of the Sixties and Seventies. This all makes perfect sense, given that the folk-rockers of that era inspired so much music. However, only some of these bands create tunes that sound like they were actually created in that era.
One band making music today that is doing this the very best is Perth, West Australia’s The Bures Band. Its debut album last year, Birds Nest, was one of my favorite records of 2023 and something I’ve listened to constantly since it was released. Not only is The Bures Band inspired by earlier-era folk rock, but they sound like the flesh-and-blood reincarnation of The Flying Burrito Brothers.
Building off the strength of last year’s Birds Nest, The Bures Band is back with a new single, “Green Town,” released on May 24th.
Listen to “Green Town” below:
Much like their earlier material, “Green Town” gets the chooglin’ right with the twin guitar/vocal mix of Callum Anderson, Danny Miles, and Stephen Bailey. The groove in this song – as it is in all their songs – is immaculate, conjuring images of backyard cookouts, cold beers, and good times.
The Bures Band was formed in late 2022, and I thank the group for its beautiful blend of Americana, folk rock, and blues. Dig into Birds Nest and “Green Town,” and you’ll find catchy riffs and harmonies that promise great things.
What do they have in store for us next? We’ll see. In the meantime, let “Green Town” be one of your late spring/early summer anthem.
