CATWOLF is a soulful rock trio that boosts spirits with tempo-changing grooves and beaming vocal harmonies. They play sweet, smooth, and heavy rock, and the trio charges ahead with their unique flair. Their newest song—“Beast Charmer”—is not new in that it was released in October 2023, but it’s new to The Third Eye, so here we present it to you, dear readers.
Listen to “Beast Charmer” below:
“Beast Charmer” is a terrific party-rock song with a shimmering guitar lead that reminds me of The Black Keys but with a feminine twist. The lyrics howl, “I’d like to start a riot/It’s burning in my breasts/And only when you’ll join it/Will you get me at my best.” In between the thrust of the vocal harmonies and the suggestive lyrics, CATWOLF takes on the mantle of a modernized Riot Grrl act, adding their unique twist and inviting us out to the dance floor to boogie.
CATWOLF embodies the authenticity of Sixties and Seventies rock icons and brings a fresh, new style to the stage. With their excellent marketing, vibrant cover art, and elaborate costumes, they create an immersive experience that I find captivating.
The group is led by singer-songwriter Cat Wolf, who seeps into the listener’s bones with poetic lyrics, moving vocals, and dynamic guitar playing. Drummer Moselle Spiller brings a powerful dancing beat with an attack that bites – and I imagine it bites like a ferocious feline. (Hungry like the wolf?) Bassist Moa Hedegaard lays down captivating bass lines, all while delivering vocal harmonies like an angelic laser beam.

Along with “Beast Charmer,” the group has released two full-length albums. Vision In The Dark came in 2022, followed by 2023’s Woohoos and Go Go Boots! Catwolf is a band that likes to have fun with a capital F, and they shared their brand of rock ‘n roll on a short tour recently in Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. They were joined by the excellent Nashville-based rockers Miss Lonely (which The Third Eye wrote about here).
I wanted to make one of the shows in Nashville, but stormy weather and tornadoes had other ideas. I also wanted to write about CATWOLF earlier to get the word out about their tour, but I missed that, too. Damn! Either way, CATWOLF is a great band that fans of female-fronted rock and indie punk should love. If you live in New England, you might have a better chance to see their dynamic live show, as they have a date lined up in Gorham, NH, on May 18th. Enjoy!
