Ambient musician Golden Brown takes a trip to the more atmospheric side of his artistry in a new track called “Kindness,” which is off a forthcoming album of the same title due out on March 19th via Aural Canyon Records. Golden Brown is the immersive, dreamy music of a certain Stefan Beck, played on acoustic and electric guitars, other stringed instruments, and keyboard.
Listen to “Kindness” below:
Stefan says the new album’s seven songs are built around layering modal improvisations on guitar, lap steel, keyboards, and kalimba, recorded at home from summer 2022 through winter 2023. He says the initial idea for most of the songs was a minimal sonic palette, either based on drones or loops.
“Melodic elements were layered on top with the intent of keeping the music spacious and simple, with a feeling of calm and safety,” Stefan says on Bandcamp. “To me, these songs feel aligned with a cooler color palette, a reflective mood, and things/places/beings connected to water.”

Water is the keyword. Much of Golden Brown’s music is centered around nature-inspired themes. From following him on social media, I see many of his pictures from nature walks, so I assume he draws a lot of creative inspiration from them. “Kindness” has a serene quality, as if you’re meditating by a lake while listening, with the gentle lapping of sound and fluidity of movement.
Wide Ranging Rider from September 2023 was Golden Brown’s first-ever vinyl release, issued via Seattle-based Inner Islands Records. The album garnered much acclaim from sites like Raven Sings The Blues and Aquarium Drunkard, which called it “casually dazzling, always uplifting.”
Stefan’s music is the perfect ambient remedy to whatever ails you, offering a calm refuge and often mesmerizing listening experience. Relax to the sounds of “Kindness” and gear up for Golden Brown’s new album on March 19th.
