Video Premiere: ‘Funeral Kabob’ by Slow Draw

The Third Eye is proud to present the premiere of Texas-based ambient/psych artist Slow Draw’s new video, “Funeral Kabob.” The song is from Slow Draw’s 2023 album, The Mystic Crib, which we covered last year.

Check out the video below:

Like many of the songs on The Mystic Crib, “Funeral Kabob” shows Slow Draw departing from the noisy ambient improvised pieces he’s accustomed to and takes a trip into a more structured vibe described as a mishmash of Sonic Youth with the psychedelic side of The Beatles. “There’s a distinct tonal setting for this work,” Slow Draw says. “It provides an ambient groove meant for one to lose themselves in, or simply have floating in the background to calm the mind as one goes about their day.” We all need something that like sometimes, right?

Slow Draw is the solo project of Hurst, Texas-based Mark Kitchens, who provides ambient soundscapes, lightly steeped in exploratory psych and meditative drawn-out cadence of drone. The Mystic Crib is an excellent album I’ve enjoyed since it was released last November, which I also own on CD.

The Third Eye also premiered another of Slow Draw’s videos for “Sons of the Culinary Arts” in October 2023. Check it out here.

Check out the “Funeral Kabob” video above, head to Bandcamp to find the album, and support Slow Draw by checking out the rest of his music. It’s excellent ambient instrumental stuff with touches of psych that’ll put you in a relaxed state but still grab your attention for its experimental flourishes. Enjoy!
