Sweet Bleed is a Queer Psych group that draws inspiration from the LGBTQ+ movement and underground rock. Their music results from long jam sessions blending old-school gloomy and occult, slow, heavy rock. The band also has an intriguing back story that could’ve only happened in our modern era.
Sweet Bleed is the result of a successful Tinder date, in which two members started the band with the vision to play dreamy, progressive, and experimental rock (was that advertised on the Tinder profile?) After the two founding members swiped right and the joint endeavor was a success, they continued searching for members of dating apps, and today, Sweet Bleed is a complete band.
Its debut single, “Svälta” (eng. Starve), is about the battle between love and neurosis and the band’s fight for the vulnerable ones. The song is a collective sigh of relief as they promise to let go, together falling gently into the embrace of a warm and tranquil synth pad. Sweet Bleed welcomes all to fall with them, embracing our weaknesses and finding the strength within.
“Svälta” is an epic single, a slow burn with a runtime of nearly eight minutes. The lead vocals remind me of a fiery, unrelenting Sinead O’Connor (may she rest in peace) and give off heavy Lilith Fair vibes. While the vocals steal the show, the boiling tension and hazy psychedelia of the instrumentation keep the track floating in an alternate universe of pleasure and pain.
I’ve never heard a band use the genre tag “Queer Psych” before, but I think it’s super awesome. Sweet Bleed is an interesting new arrival in the psychedelic underground with just this one track out so far, and I’m excited to see how they develop and what they come up with next. Check out “Svälta” on Spotify or wherever you stream your music, and stay tuned to Sweet Bleed’s social media accounts for updates on new tunes. Enjoy!
