Magnolian Moods is an eight-piece psychedelic funk band from Vienna, Austria, whose music represents evolving journeys with influences from krautrock, acid folk, and mystic jazz. Their first single, “Earth and Space,” was released on November 24th, and it’s here to mystify you with its psych sounds.

“It’s again time to dream and dance,” the band’s bio reads, “marvelous magnolias – the show must grow on.” That’s a great motto and one that suits Magnolian Moods. “Earth and Space” is an extended jam at nine minutes and seventeen seconds, featuring warm female vocals and plenty of room for the band to flex its musical muscles. The tune is always relaxing, though, with that mystic jazz vibe they speak of that’s at turns funky and also shimmering and cozy.

“Earth and Space” is the band’s first released piece of music, so I’m unsure what their plans are for making more stuff and releasing a full-length. But it’s a great tune that shows promise for these Austrian psych heads. Magnolian Moods’ Spotify profile also includes some excellent live tracks. Add “Earth and Space” to a bigger playlist of smooth, relaxing psych jams – it would sound well paired with the world-psych master Khruangbin. Enjoy!
