Genre-bending, Psychedelic mastermind Kevin Parker says a new Tame Impala record could be coming soon. For Parker’s vast legion of fans, it probably won’t come soon enough. He left us waiting five years between his most recent effort, The Slow Rush, and 2015’s Currents, so his comments are a pleasant surprise.
During a wide-ranging interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Parker made the comments, touching on various subjects like becoming a father and his complicated relationship with his own dad. Parker’s dad played guitar around the house when he grew up but told him not to play music, which made him only want to rebel more. Parker explored the relationship with his dad on the track “Posthumous Forgiveness” on The Slow Rush.
The multi-instrumentalist said he’ll have another album done “sooner than what has been the pattern for me,” which is great news, obviously. Last October, he announced a new deluxe edition of The Slow Rush that came out in February. The new version has B-sides and remixes from Four Tet and Blood Orange, among others.
Parker said he spends a lot of his time alone making music, but he’s currently on the road, no doubt melting faces with his incredible live show. Tame Impala is playing headline shows throughout the U.S. and Australia in 2022, including festival appearances this summer at Primavera, All Points East, and Rock en Seine.
