While Los Angeles rebuilds after the devastating wildfires in January, Ty Segall has assembled the benefit compilation L.A. RECOVERS. Released through Ty and Denée Segall’s DIY imprint, Classic Master Sound Recordings, the 13-track LP is a sonic potluck where garage-rock oddballs, noise punks, and psych weirdos cover one another’s songs.
The roster is a who’s who of L.A.’s fuzz-rock underground: No Age, Redd Kross, White Fence, Meatbodies, Shannon & The Clams, Mikal Cronin, Emmett Kelly, Charles Moothart, The Intelligence, King Tuff, Jack Name, and Shannon Lay all show up with unreleased material. Everyone involved has deep, creative roots in the city.
All proceeds go to One Voice LA – Fire Relief Fund and the California Black Freedom Fund’s Black LA Relief & Recovery initiative. The album drops as a single-pressing vinyl via GoodNeighbor with no streaming or reissues. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
Meanwhile, Segall is prepping his 16th album, Possession, a narrative-heavy plunge into America’s cracked soul due for release on May 30th. After wrapping a solo run, he’ll bring the new songs to life with a full-band tour, followed by a summer stint opening for Primus.
