Jeffrey Alexander + The Heavy Lidders are back and trippier than ever with a new record, Synchronous Orbit, launching May 9th via Cardinal Fuzz (UK) and Feeding Tube Records (US).
This time, they set their controls for the heart of the sun, blending cosmic improvisation with studio-crafted warmth. To mark the announcement, they’ve unveiled a radio edit of the sprawling opener, “Star Power (Sun Flower Mix),” now floating across streaming services like a satellite beaming transmissions from the past.
The album starts with a look back—a raw, early version of “Star Power” from New Earth Seed, now drenched in golden-hour glow.
This crunchier and freer mix pulls the listener into a hazy psychedelic ramble, where guest percussionist Ryan Jewell and Bristol legend Kate Wright (Movietone, Crescent) weave their magic. Wright’s harmonies entwine with Alexander’s in a dreamlike drift, riding the wave of a deeply trippy interlude before gliding back to Earth.
Across three expansive tracks, Synchronous Orbit showcases the Lidders’ ability to balance loose, exploratory jamming with an undeniable gravitational pull.
“Bernal Afterburn” smolders like a slow-burning ember, while the album’s centerpiece, a 20-minute live recording from the Milwaukee Psych Fest, “Plastistone Circle (Slight Return),” takes flight with saxophonist Isaiah Collier adding bullhorn wails and bird calls to the heady mix.
Some bands explore the cosmos; others become constellations. Synchronous Orbit proves Jeffrey Alexander and the Heavy Lidders are the latter, burning steady and bright. Catch them on their UK tour this May—dates below.
