Boulder, Colorado-based psych-rockers Infinite Cousins—the brainchild of Theodore Stevens (formerly of Pool Sharks)—have unleashed their final single, “Motel of Duality,” ahead of their debut album Nebulous Tremulous, arriving January 3rd.
A cosmic voyage of sound and story, the LP will be celebrated with a release show at Lost Lake on January 9th, joined by local standouts Virgil Virgil and Soneffs.
The hypnotic “Motel of Duality,” released on December 13th, emerged from a motel room deep in the wastelands of California. With its barricaded doors and looming desert heat following an attempted break-in, Stevens penned the track in a surreal haze of introspection.
It’s an entrancing sonic landscape of whimsical flutes, synths, and sprawling guitar soundscapes that capture the weight of disconnection and the yearning for direction. It’s a physical and emotional journey through burning sands and buried truths.
Nebulous Tremulous was born in pandemic-era introspection, orbiting themes of dystopian unease and the fragile potential for something better. Equal parts chaos and catharsis, the album’s labyrinthine melodies and astral grooves transport listeners aboard a starship teetering between confusion and ecstasy.
Recorded at LA’s legendary yet fleeting Discount Mirrors—a studio helmed by Eric Bauer (Ty Segall, Meatbodies, Osees) and John Dwyer (Osees)—the record hums with the kind of raw experimentalism that only emerges from rarefied spaces.
