The Spyrals’ latest album, Retrograde, marks a thrilling return to their roots while boldly exploring new sonic landscapes. More than a decade into their career, frontman Jeff Lewis has distilled the essence of The Spyrals, merging raw energy with the band’s evolving style.

Known for their live, unfiltered approach, The Spyrals took a leap from garage-recording to the polished acoustics of Station House Studio in Echo Park, Los Angeles, in early 2024. After months of intense jamming, they crafted a collection of songs that capture their signature mix of gritty blues riffs and psychedelic ambiance.

The Spyrals first emerged from San Francisco’s vibrant music scene in 2009, quickly building a reputation for powerful live performances. Playing everywhere from intimate clubs to iconic SF venues, they became fixtures of the Bay Area’s psych-rock renaissance.

With early support from Aquarius Records in the Mission District, they dropped their self-titled debut album in 2012, solidifying their standing as West Coast psych-rock torchbearers.

Following up with Out of Sight and The Curse, Lewis relocated to Los Angeles, ushering in a new chapter for the band. In 2020, they released Same Old Line with Fuzz Club Records, introducing fresh elements of country and blues into their sound.

The record was widely acclaimed, resonating with critics and fans alike. In 2021, keyboardist and bassist Georgia Feroce joined the lineup, adding vocals and lush keys that brought a deeper dimension to the band’s music. With Dash Borinstein on drums, the trio embarked on a relentless jamming and touring journey, shaping the dynamic new sound that would eventually fuel Retrograde.

Retrograde was released on November 15th, a testament to the evolution of a band that remains unapologetically loud and real while still riding the high of the live music spirit that ignited their journey.
